Unless you have been living under a rock for the past ten years (if you have, no judgement!) then you’re no doubt well aware - or at least have heard of - Elon Musk and the electrical whizzes at Tesla.

The genius’ at Tesla (and MLEC)  have teamed up, thus producing a super-genius partnership with power to boot!

Tesla, the world leaders in producing clean energy gear, launched Tesla Motors in 2003. Teslas company’s focus back then was producing ground-breaking electric automobile technology, with its pinnacle of electric car production culminating in 2017 with the Model 3.

After 14 years Tesla launched the Model 3 which quickly became the bestselling plug-in electric car of all time, with more than 800,000 units shipped throughout December 2020 - a 35.8% increase from 2019. Currently Tesla has surpassed the 1 million mark of plug-in electric cars produced.

Elon Musk and his crew of static-friendly cohorts took their electrical know-how to the energy storage market in 2012.

In 8 short years, Tesla has become one of the largest global suppliers of battery energy storage systems, with 3 GWh of battery storage supplied in 2020. Tesla has also installed some of the largest battery storage plants in the world.

MLEC were concurrently building their equally impressive solar system business and quickly becoming well renowned all over WA as the industry leaders in installing, servicing and maintaining efficient solar systems. The two rapidly growing and successful companies would align and work together, helping provide optimum energy storage solutions in Western Australia.

MLEC is very proud to stock, supply, install and service the amazingly powerful Tesla Powerwall.  Powerwall - It sounds like a Hollywood action movie - or something Superman would construct in his workshop. Truth be told, it’s kind of like the latter - but better. The Tesla Powerwall is a rechargeable lithium-ion battery stationary energy storage system, intended to be used for home energy storage

The Powerwall stores electricity for solar self-consumptiontime of use-load shifting, backup usage and off-the-grid power.

Powerwall is fundamentally a clean energy battery designed to store all of your solar energy. It also detects outages and automatically becomes your home's energy source when the established power grid suffers an outage.

So it’s like a generator? Not so much. Without requiring fuel or upkeep, Powerwall keeps your lights on, aircon running, phones charged - whatever you use your power for - free from noise, fumes or maintenance. MLEC installs and pairs the Powerwall with a solar panel system, allowing the whole setup to recharge from the sun’s rays, enabling your house to run power for days and beyond.

So, what can the Powerwall do for your home and your business? Besides actively cutting down carbon emissions by harnessing eco-friendly energy, the solar energy can be stored within Powerwall and thus power your home and business continually through times the sun is low, blocked by shade or shining on the other side of the world.

It’s a no brainer. The Powerwall holds surplus energy to power your home and business, cutting down on-grid electricity bills and helping save the planet all at the same time.

For stat-nerds:

The Powerwall’s 7 kWh PW1 battery uses nickel-manganese-cobalt chemistry and can be cycled five thousand times before the 10-year warranty expires. The Tesla Powerwall has a 92.5% round-trip efficiency when charged or discharged by a 400–450 V system at 2 kW with a temperature of 25 °C when the product is brand new.

They are some powerful wattage facts, but how does the Powerwall fare specifically on Australian shores? Pretty darn well - so well in fact, a united set of Powerwall’s in South Australia saved the day in 2019 when Queensland suffered a power outage.

When a major power station in Queensland completely tripped out in October 2019, hundreds of South Australian Powerwall’s were called upon to unite, combined their energy output and become a virtual power plant to supply Queensland.  More info on the South Australian virtual power plant here:

Even the Swiss Bank UBS and their analysts believe Australia is a hot spot for the Powerwall. Via the Renew Economy, USB states ‘Powerwall makes sense in Australia where electricity is very costly but solar panels are well distributed.’ They also mention that: ‘battery storage, teamed with solar, is predicted to do to the energy industry what the internet did to the media and mobiles did to the telephone handset.’

The Swiss bank analysts also say ‘Australia will be ground zero for battery storage around the world, thanks to its high electricity costs and massive solar penetration’ Australia: soon to be world leaders in clean energy storage?

Basically, the Swiss analysts report that the Tesla Powerwall – the 7kWh version – will deliver an economic return. They estimate at an internal rate of return of 9 per cent. That represents a pay-back of about six years, which isn’t a bad little investment when all is said and done.

Tesla’s Powerwall, with its powerful capabilities and gorgeous minimal design, for the aesthetically minded, is confidently one of the world leading energy storage devices. Why not reduce your reliance on the grid, reduce your carbon footprint, prepare your home and business for power outages and save money doing all the above? Ask us how, today.
